At first glance, it seems like Annabel has a perfect life, but the reality is that her junior year in high school is off to a terrible start. With a depressed mother and an older sister who has an eating disorder, her home life isn’t exactly easy. As if that’s not enough, Annabel can’t tell anyone what really happened at the party at the beginning of the summer. A huge misunderstanding caused her to lose all of her friends, and with no one who will listen, she keeps it to herself. Then she meets Owen, an intimidating loner who always tells the truth, no matter the consequences. At first, this catches Annabel off guard, but before long, the unlikely pair become friends. When the pressure of her untold story becomes too much, it’s Owen that finally gives Annabel the courage to speak up and make everyone listen.

Main Characters:
Annabel Greene was the girl who had everything last year, but a party gone wrong at the beginning of the summer changed that. Now she’s left with no friends and a secret too big for anyone to handle alone, but Annabel, always trying to avoid conflict, tells no one. She’s still haunted constantly by her memories of that night, and they begin to take over her life.
Owen Armstrong is back at school after his court-demanded time in anger management – the result of punching another guy in the face. He is a changed person, but everyone still steers clear of him. Owen is never seen without his iPod – he loves music, which saved him during his parents’ ugly divorce. He is also painfully honest (another result of anger management) and can’t stand liars.
Whitney Greene is the middle Greene sister and is recovering from severe anorexia. Sarcastic and angry, she locks herself in her room whenever she’s not forced into being an outpatient at the treatment facility. She hates her new therapy group at first, but through the somewhat unconventional assignments, she finally begins to come to terms with her past and start over.
